Hello Time Wasters!

I’m not the kind of guy to turn down a racing game but boy has it been awhile a long time. Luckily for me that’s when Gas Guzzlers: Combat Carnage (GG from this point forward) came knocking on my door. To make things even better GG is isn’t your normal run of the mill racing game, it’s a battle racing game! Racing games in this vein have always been my favorite in the genre. It probably has to do with growing up in the era of Mario Kart but none the less these games are great. My personal Favorite is Jak X for the PS2 (or Beetle Adventure Racing! for the N64, such hard choices). That being said I’m going to being using these games to see if GG holds up.

Starting out we have a lot of humor in the game. Our opening car is our Dad’s old junker he gave us and riding shotgun is our favorite blowup doll (I’m not making this up). Combine this with our driving hula hooping with a tire in the background and laughs ensue. The game also adds a few questionable track name as well. Examples of these include God’s Dam Circuit and Camel Toe Trail. Sure I snickered like a twelve year old school boy so the game got its point across.

But let’s get onto the meat of it all, the gameplay.

Here is where GG really shines. Driving around blasting your opponents with shotguns and rockets never gets old. Sure there are races that don’t allow the use of weapons but what is the fun in that? GG also runs the norm in random powerups such as boost, landmines, oil and more! With a huge number of tracks available and over 20 different cars to unlock and customize there is a lot to do in GG.

Adding to the already great gameplay is the overly upbeat music found throughout the game. From fun country western cowboy songs in the garage to high octane battle music the sound track for such an indie game is really impressive. Granted you won’t be hearing your favorite artist but the music is sure to satisfy.

Overall GG is a great game that I have a hard time findings anything wrong with. Of course there is the occasional glitch here and there but it’s nothing that will harm the game. GG is a great buy and I highly suggest it to fans of the combat racing genre.
