Activision Co-Founder Alan Miller Joins Rixty

Video game industry pioneer and co-founder of Activision Alan Miller has joined alternative online payment company Rixty as a strategic advisor and head of publisher relations.

"Rixty got my attention in July when they launched their service enabling consumers to convert loose change to online spending accounts at the 10,000 Coinstar coin-counting kiosks around the country," commented Miller. "I was particularly impressed that this service is entirely free to consumers. "Alan is a great addition to our team," said Ted Sorom, Rixty's co-founder and CEO. "His decades of experience in the interactive entertainment industry are especially valuable to Rixty as we focus on expanding our service with top online gaming and entertainment publishers. Alan understands the critical shift that is taking place as game distribution transitions from brick and mortar retail to online and as business models change from one-time purchase and ad-supported models to microtransaction payments for virtual goods in Free-to-Play MMO and casual games."

"Rixty provides a big win-win-win service for consumers, entertainment publishers and online retailers. We make online purchasing a reality for tens of millions of Americans who don't have credit cards or PayPal accounts," added Miller. "Rixty also provides additive revenue to publishers and retailers since our consumers' purchases do not cannibalize current credit card sales."

Alan Miller is one of the world's most experienced entertainment software executives with over 30 years experience developing, marketing and distributing interactive games. In 1979, he co-founded Activision, the first independent video game publisher, and served as VP Product Development. In 1984, he co-founded Accolade, his second entertainment software publisher, initially serving as VP Product Development and ultimately as Chairman and CEO. Under his leadership, Accolade developed many well-known video game brands, including Hardball, Test Drive, and Jack Nicklaus Golf. Accolade was acquired by Atari in 1999. Since 2001, he has focused on the online distribution of casual, downloadable, and ad-supported games.
