Hey all I’m back with an oddball topic for this week’s Video Game Tuesday. It’s all about FFXIV’s Sage Job Icon!

Huh?: So for those unaware Final Fantasy XIV has an upcoming expansion coming very soon that introduces two new Jobs (Classes in other MMOs) Reaper, a melee DPS Job, and Sage, a Healer Job, the first since Heavensward added Astrologian. But the reason I’m talking about the Sage’s Job Icon is because the original (the left in the above image) planned icon, which serves as a shorthand in game for player’s UIs, was triggering some people’s phobia of closely-packed holes, or Trypophobia.

So the developers changed it, a thing that most people will just look at once and not really acknowledge except to give a glance when you join a party to determine who is your healer. It’s such a very minor change, but it’s noteworthy because FFXIV has continued to be the shining example I hold up to all other Live Service games as the goal post to meet. This is such a minor change, but the director of the entire game, who is also working on Final Fantasy XVI as well, took time out of his incredibly busy schedule to announce this change.

I can only hope more Developers can take a note from YoshiP and his team on what you should do when it comes to creating games.

That’s it for this week’s Video Game Tuesday.
