Enough is enough!

Two years. We are hitting two years since the launch of the Nintendo Wii. But even after all that time, I was only able to find three consoles in stock, one of which I was able to purchase, and even then I had to check the box to see if it was legit. I was afraid it would either be a display box or a retail box that was filled with phonebooks or anything else that would make the box heavy.

And keep in mind that my search went through five states: Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and West Virginia (where I found the last unit along with my co-host in the Gamer Geeks show. I actually had to ask her if this was a sign of the Apocalypse.)

That last Wii console was found during The July Fourth weekend. Since then I have not been able to locate any more. And don't even get me started on the Wii Fit. I have not found one single copy of the game, nor the balance board peripheral. Gamestop is actually offering a $60 trade in for both the game and board in an attempt to get some copies in, and I'm sure that will be the only way they will find some (unless people decide to just put the game up on eBay. Doesn't sound like a bad idea to me.)

Wii Fit has been out for almost four months, and for Nintendo to not have any in stock for this long is as baffling. Why is it taking them so long to meet demand for either Fits or Wiis? To make matters worse, they are actually shipping more copies over to Europe because the value of the Euro is stronger than that of the almighty dollar.

Oh really? Then try to explain that to every soccer mom who goes to Gamestop to ask if they have any Wiis or Wii Fit bundles in stock? Or those same individuals who line up outside of Toys R Us every Sunday morning to fight over the two or three copies that are available. (sometimes)

What made matters worse is a comment made by the CEO of GameStop where he said he feels that the Wii shortages have no end in sight. Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter mentions that the US only receives a third of the total production, which completely puzzles me. If you've got a hot product in such heavy demand, why not make more of it and ship it to people who want it?

I just don't get it. What does Nintendo have to hide? Are they afraid that people will realize the quality of their third party titles is underwhelming? Do they fear that once they get enough to meet demand they will be left on store shelves. like they were during the N64 and GameCube days? Or do they just enjoy creating this artificial hype?

I would love to have a one on one discussion with Reggie to get the full story on what is going on and to see if my biggest fears are true: that Nintendo is intentionally hoarding Wiis and Wii Fits in order to create an artificial hype.

I mean look at all the titles that are coming out for the holiday. Even though they are ignoring their core audience who stood by them during the N64/GameCube days by not announcing any key franchises, (where's my Kid Icarus remake!) their new titles are actually programmed to use the Wii Fit Balance Board. What good is that, however, if you are not releasing any Balance Boards to the hungry masses?

And will you be doing the same thing as far as Animal Crossing and Wii Sports Resort are concerned? After all, they are adding new peripherals with the Wii Speak microphone and the Wii Motion Plus, respectively.

For many a parent who is looking for a Wii, or a copy of Wii Fit this holiday, this again is starting to turn into a time of desperation. Reggie claims that production is being ramped up to meet demand, but I still do not see it, nor do I believe him. Pachter believes that the production increase is supposed to begin later this month, but if that's the case, it might still be too late for the upcoming holiday season.

Maybe it's time for us to take a stand and say that we are sick and tired of Nintendo not releasing enough consoles and boards to satisfy a hungry crowd. I already have my own way of voicing my opinion on this matter. What do I plan to do? Keep reading here or listen to GamerGeeks to find out. It will all come to a head before Black Friday.

Currently Playing: NHL 09 (360,) Madden 09 (360)

Waiting for: Nintendo to finally come to their senses and release more consoles and balance boards, and for Reggie to provide us a valid explanation.

SERIOUSLY Waiting for: Rock Band 2 (360)
