‘Ello Time Wasters!

This week’s game is one that kept me entertained for a while and so I’m hoping it will do the same for any of you who want to give it a shot. The game is called Magnetized and it involves, you guessed it, magnets. Fortunately the use of magnets in this game isn’t as generic as you might originally think it is. So let’s get started and I’ll explain what you’re in for if you decide to try this one out.

Your goal in Magnetized is straight forward enough: getting your block in one end of the level and out the other. To accomplish this there are only two things you have to worry about affecting how easily you will reach your goal. These two things are the magnets and the paths your block must travel through. Some of these paths have only a single turn in their otherwise straight halls, but sometimes that’s enough to kill you multiples of times before you get your timing down.

Getting through the halls involves using the magnets to pull your block in various ways so that it progresses, and there are more magnets to use the farther in you get into the game. First you’ll have only blue magnets, which will pull at your block but allows it to keeps its forward motion. Next you have pink magnets, which pull your block quickly towards it and sometimes (depending on the angle your pulling it from) will stop your block’s movement completely. There are also yellow magnets, which teleport you based on where your block is in comparison to said magnet. All of these are eventually combined and used in corridors that not only have twists and turns, but also moving obstacles that will kill your block if touched.

Interested yet? Or does it seem a little too hard for some of you? Don’t worry, most of this game is actually pretty laid back, and the game also looks good to boot. Its calm colors and nice soundtrack choices fit really well and were enjoyable to listen to and look at, so even if you find yourself dying over and over again (and you’ll be dying hundreds of times), the game doesn’t have any features that should really press your nerves. I can’t say this for the last few levels of the game though, since even the soft yellow wasn’t enough to curb my growing frustration on those harder puzzles. But for most of the game at least, there is a lack of stress. It helps that there is also no sense of urgency while you’re playing and so you’re free to take as much time as you want on any of the levels.

That said, I suggest anyone willing to play Magnetized to sit back and enjoy what you’re getting into.

Really, go enjoy it. I think you’ll have fun. Just remember what I said about those very last levels; you have been warned.
