Hey all I’m back with the sequel to Stuck in the Game! It’s Back in the Game by Christopher Keene!

Back in the game is the second book in the Dream State Saga. We reviewed the first book, where after a terrible car accident, seventeen-year-old Noah Newbolt falls into a coma and is hooked up to the innovative Dream Engine—a virtual reality helmet that immerses the player in an online fantasy game.

Plot: Noah is back and while there isn’t as much emphasis on the drug aspect as the last book, it was still mentioned. I now know it was an editorial choice for the previous book though, so Mr. Keene gets a pass. This was a pretty intense sequel, and while I might not have been totally okay with some of the content, it was a pretty good book. If somewhat small for my tastes.

Characters: we get introduced to a couple newcomers, but it’s still mostly Noah’s show. There were some character developments I wasn’t exactly thrilled with, but that’s a personal preference rather than a quality/style issue. Overall, the cast was pretty good.

Overall: A solid sequel. If you enjoyed Stuck in the Game, reading Back in the Game will be a good way to spend some time.
