OpenFlight Tools Ready For Developers

Turbo Squid, home of the world's largest collection of royalty-free 3D assets and worldwide publisher and distributor for the Discreet Certified 3ds max Plug-in program, today announced the release of Flight Studio from Bluerock Technologies as a DCP.

Flight Studio is a complete set of OpenFlight importing, editing, and exporting tools for Discreet 3ds max 6 professional 3D modeling, rendering and animation software. Most tools that read and write OpenFlight files typically change the structure of the data, which forces timely reworks and limits the usefulness for visual simulation. Bluerock Technologies has addressed this key limitation to preserve the original OpenFlight structure while allowing the simulation modeler to edit and create new 3D elements that can be directly placed in the scene.

Flight Studio will allow the user to load, edit and export OpenFlight scene graphs and databases from within Discreet’s 3ds max 6 software, all while retaining scene graph structure and attributes. This new DCP offers OpenFlight artists unparalleled access to the scene graph and its attributes, enabling new capabilities not currently available in any other tool. New features include scene graph and attribute editing, LOD and Switch node management, easy to use hierarchy display, all while maintaining the original scene graph structure. In addition to these new features OpenFlight artists can continue to use the full range of award wining content creation tools available in 3ds max 6, including polygonal and multi-resolution mesh modeling, unwrap UV modifier, texture baking, real-world lighting, and vertex paint modifier. Given the powerful creation tools available with 3ds max 6, artists will have a new platform for creating accurate, efficient and compelling OpenFlight databases.

"OpenFlight artists now have an efficient pipeline into Discreet's 3ds max software with Flight Studio," said Brian Blau, CEO of Bluerock Technologies. "As a DCP, Flight Studio gives users a higher level of support and familiarity when using the product. We are happy to have Discreet and Turbo Squid as our partners."
