5D, the Immersive Design Conference, co-presented by the Art Directors Guild and the University Art Museum, CSULB, will be a major participant with Filmakademie Baden-Wuerttemberg in fmx/09. This 14th International Conference on Animation, Effects, Games and Digital Media will be held in Stuttgart, Germany May 5 to 8.
Top experts in the field from around the world will be participating, including leading Hollywood innovators.
For the first time, 5D will present a track of sessions themed to the interaction of creativity and technology in the design of passive and active experiences in visual art, entertainment, and environmental design.
Among the panel moderators are production designer Alex McDowell, co-director of 5D, whose panel is titled "Creation"; Chris Scoates, director of the University Art Museum at Cal State Long Beach and co-director of 5D (a panel on "Imagination"); production designer Kim Baumann Larsen, founding partner and creative director of Placebo Effects ("Construction)"; Alex Laurant, art director, visual designer and concept artist ("Perception"); and Tali Krakowsky, director of experience design, who heads a think-tank at WET Design ("Interaction").
5D redefines the role of the designer at the intersection of art, technology and storytelling in narrative media and offers a progressive platform for discourse on the present and future of immersive design. The 5D community will come together again at its cornerstone biennial conference in October, 2010 where leading designers, thinkers and technologists will culminate the two year long exploration with high-level cross-disciplinary discourse. Co-sponsored by the Art Directors Guild and the University Art Museum, CSULB, the conference will be held on the campus of CSULB, the site of the first gathering attended by over 1,000 people in October, 2008.
