Hey all, I’m back with a look at four games that were never released but had the potential to be commercially successful for this week’s Video Game Tuesday.

How I define potential: The premise of the game or the underlying design it was centered around was great, as was the fan base, meaning that if the new game had released, it likely would have been high quality and also commercially successful.

Star Wars Battlefront II

Star Wars Battlefront III: A game that was widely anticipated was finally binned after Disney acquired the licenses to the entire franchise including its gaming ones. While it’s been rebooted by EA, the first reboot was not great at all, and the second was the subject of a massive controversy and still holds the Guinness World Record for the most downvoted Reddit post of all time.

Doom 4: It had some great ideas, with the series taking place on Earth and was looking to be a bit more cinematic. Sadly it stalled and was eventually reworked into the reboot of the series that was released eight years after Doom 4 was first announced.

Fez II: Fez is an indie darling for many people, and its developer deserves high praise for it being wildly successful. The reason for its much-anticipated sequel’s cancellation a month after its announcement was controversial.  After an argument about Fez II with a journalist on social media, the developer announced the cancellation of the sequel. The developer recently admitted that Fez II was early in development and that he wasn’t feeling it at the time of its cancellation, and there was a lot of pressure to follow up the success of Fez.

StarCraft: Ghost: Probably the biggest game that I have always wanted to play but was not released, StarCraft: Ghost was going to be the action adventure jump into the StarCraft franchise where players would control the character Nova as she stealthed through hostile enemy bases and piloted various vehicles from both the Terran and Protoss to rain destruction on her enemies. I have personally heard from a former developer that StarCraft: Ghost’s multiplayer mode that was playable by Blizzard developers in studio was worthy of being released on its own and being a very good game, but the higher ups never decided to go for it. Maybe it’s worth looking at now after all this time? The core concept and character could be worth it.

That’s it for this week’s Video Game Tuesday.
