Hey all, I’m back with the third volume of Light’s quest for this week’s Translation Necessary Thursday. It’s “Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon Volume Three” by Meikyou Shisui.

Plot: The plot of this entry continues with Light’s quest for revenge with him now scrambling to secure his once ally Sionne, the dark elf, who has gotten herself trapped in a spontaneous dungeon when she summoned an interdimensional dragon in a mad experiment. The volume is pretty predictable, but it does showcase the absolutely horrible nature of the story’s world even further. Sionne is a real piece of work.

Characters: There are quite a few new characters in this volume with Light braving the new dungeon and trying to reach Sionne who we get to learn more about. It turns out that she’s an absolutely insane researcher who doesn’t care about paltry things like morals or ethics. Lovely. The rest of the newcomers are also fairly interesting, but this volume is really stolen by Light and the two allies who make up his party, Gold and Nemumu, who haven’t gotten to show off quite as much as the higher-level characters.

Overall: A good third entry, and one that continues Light’s search for both vengeance and his siblings, but it’s not particularly noteworthy overall or outstanding. Still, it’s a good read as the series continues.
