Hey all, I’m back with a game from back in the mid 90’s for this week’s Retro Game Friday. It’s Backyard Baseball ’97.

Plot: This has no plot, not really. It’s about playing baseball.

Gameplay: This was one of the games I played at my elementary school when it was rainy, which was often. Frankly, I wasn’t the biggest fan of it, but that’s because I preferred more fantastical stories compared with sports titles. It was quite a hit to watch other kids play it, however, which was something that happened frequently given the low number of computers and how fast they would get taken up during recess.

Art: The graphics were pretty good, and while not pixel based, they do still hold up to the test of time fairly well. In addition, it was recently remastered and ported to plenty of other platforms like the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5. A remastered version of Backyard Baseball ’97 is also available on the Steam platform.

Music: The music was appropriate for the title but not memorable.

Overall: A pretty solid baseball game, though it is limited given it is fairly old.

For those who like: Sports (baseball in particular).

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.
