This week for Light Novel Thursday I’m covering a series that I really hope gets an anime adaptation that doesn’t suck like Campione’s did. It’s Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari, or Rising of the Shield Hero,  by Aneko Yusagi!

Plot Synopsis: Iwatani Naofumi was summoned into a parallel world along with 3 other people to become the world’s Heroes. Each of the heroes were respectively equipped with their own legendary equipment when summoned. Naofumi coincidentally received the Legendary Shield as his weapon. Due to Naofumi’s lack of charisma and experience, he ended up with only a single teammate while others have several.

Plot: It’s not nearly as light hearted as something like other series, it’s more like Arifureta than other series I’ve read. That being said it’s definitely translated better than Arifureta is at the moment, and that may impact people reading it better than reading a less refined translation like Arifureta has. The plot itself is great, and I love what Naofumi has to go through because of the other Heroes, who are all idiots.

Characters: Raphtalia is easily my favorite character, because of her earnestness towards Naofumi. Naofumi himself is a bit of an ass, but if you compare him to the rest of the Heroes he’s actually quite nice. The rest of the cast is great as well.

Art: I read the Web Novel version so I didn’t get much of a look at the art, but the artwork i’ve seen is great.

Overall: This is well worth a read if you enjoy stories of this type.

For those who like: Parallel World Stories, Fantasy, Great Plotlines, Amazing Cast of Characters, Excellent Artwork.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.
