This week I’m covering a series I hated so much that I stopped watching after five episodes. It’s Shirogane no Ishi Argevollen, or White Steel’s Will Argevollen.

Plot Synopsis: The story takes place in a world where two countries, Arandas and Ingelmia, have been warring against each other for a very long time. Tokimune, a young man belonging to Independent Unit 8 of Arandas, saves a girl named Jamie when she is attacked by enemy forces

Plot: It’s the fairly standard young pilot gets new machine and proceeds to pilot it and turn the course of the war story for the first few episodes, but even if he’s not a genius at piloting it, I still couldn’t get over the fact that all the characters made me want to gouge my eyes out. In fact the only ones who didn’t make me feel that way after a minute of screen time were the mechanic girls. If you want a good show that happens to include Mech action watch Aldnoah.Zero instead.

Characters: Tokimune has a serious chip on his shoulder and he’s an ass to boot. Normally I wouldn’t mind these qualities in a character, but when you put them together and give them such a bland backstory like Tokimune I just can’t stand it. Jamie on the other hand is just as annoying, “Oh you need to do this to pilot it properly” are frequent things that seem to come from her mouth after the first episode. The original Gundam had better characterization of it’s cast than this piece of crap show, and it’s over thirty years old.

Art: The only decent thing about this show is it’s artwork, and even then it’s nothing great like Aldnoah.Zero’s artwork.

Music: Normally I enjoy KOTOKO’s work, but I just can’t stand this show. The music is bland and nothing great, it doesn’t add to the fight scenes or make you feel tension more than normal.

Overall: Avoid this show, and go watch Aldnoah.Zero instead.

For those who like: Mechs, Bland characters that make you want to gouge your eyes out.

Not for those who don’t like: Mechs, or having an interesting plot and good characters.
