Gamescom: Sony confirms PS3 3D monitor for Europe

Europe’s 3D fans had something to cheer about last night, when Sony announced that its 3D monitor will be available this Autumn. The monitor was announced at E3 and is Sony’s affordable alternative to a 3D TV. It also includes Sony’s Simulview technology, which allows to players to see two different screens. This means multiplayer without splitscreens. The announcement came during Sony’s Gamescom press conference confirming a price of €499 (around £440), complete with two pairs of 3D glasses. Gamescom: Sony wows with Unchartered 3

Sony’s Gamescom conference focused heavily on PlayStation Vita, but it was Unchartered 3: Drake’s Deception that really stole the show. Sony Restores Online Network

Sony Online Entertainment LLC (SOE) announced today that restoration of its game services will begin today. The phased restoration will include the return of nearly all of SOE’s portfolio of online games, the reinstatement of SOE’s game forums and websites, and added functionality to require players to reset their passwords. As the result of a criminal cyber-attack on the company’s network, SOE shut down its game services in order for the company to undertake an investigation and incorporate rigorous enhancements to the overall security of the network infrastructure. Sony Confirms Gamers’ Credit Card, Personal Data Stolen From Network

If you’ve used the PlayStation Network to purchase games or buy any gear, your credit card and personal information may have been stolen by hackers. Sony finally came clean as to the extent of the network breech that has brought down the PlayStation Network for over a week. And the news is not good. PlayStation Network Outage Continues, Sony Admits Hack

Five days and counting. That’s how long the PlayStation Network has been down. Today Sony confirmed that an external security breech was the cause of the problem. Sony has now said that "an external intrusion on our system has affected our PlayStation Network and Qriocity services" which warranted shutting down the entire network to investigate. Sony posted an update on its blog, stating that additional security was being built into the network, and thanking gamers for their patience.
