Fly Sky High

Welcome Time Wasters!

My time this week wasn’t actually spent with Time Waster types of games. Instead, I was playing some Destiny 2 with Alia and a friend in the first half. Then Terry came out in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and I had to check him out (He’s awesome, btw). Luckily for me, I’ve been dropping in and out of Fly Sky High for about a month now.

Fly Sky High is a simple arcade game. It challenges players to fly through obstacle courses and complete levels. These levels lead directly into each other, which makes is sorta like an endless runner, but not quite.

The most interesting thing about Fly Sky High is how it presents levels. The actual level is a cylinder that holds all the background elements, such as obstacles and all that. It caught me off guard at first because it felt like I was moving the level instead of the plane. I got used to it after a few minutes and it actually works out really well. The endless rotation for dodging is nice and it definitely gives the game a different feel from others in this genre.

I do want to make something clear real quick. Fly Sky High is not a difficult game. It won’t challenge players with extreme difficulty, but it is enjoyable. It’s clearly a much more casual type of game and that seems to work out well on mobile devices.

Of course, there are more goals than just completing levels. Players can pick up gold in their travels. They use this to unlock different types of planes and skins for them. As far as I can tell, there’s no difference in how they operate, meaning its a visual change only.

I’m also happy to say that the number of ads in Fly Sky High is incredibly low. They are mostly for letting the player continue from where they left off after death, which is a good way to handle ads in a mobile game.

The visuals in Fly Sky High are great. The game has all sorts of bright and vivid colors. However, it’s good about using contrasting colors for enemies and obstacles. That makes it easy to see them and stops the player from feeling cheated by unseen deaths.

When it comes to audio, Fly Sky High is alright. It’s nothing spectacular but is serviceable. That goes for both the music and sounds effects, but let’s be honest, you weren’t going to keep the audio on to begin with.

Overall, Fly Sky High is a good way to kill some time. It takes a simple formula and adds in its own twists and turns to make it something new. It may lack a challenge, but that helps it work better on mobile devices. Plus, it’s one of the better games when it comes to not bombarding the player with ads. Give it a look if it seems interesting to you.
