When I first reviewed the new Doomlings collectible card game, I praised its whimsical charm, quick-to-learn gameplay and the way even new players could dive in and feel competitive from the start. That core game remains a favorite for game night fun, where strategy meets silliness and nobody feels left behind. Now, three new expansion packs are available which add more traits, creatures, ages and other interesting new strategies for even more fun.

The three new expansion packs are called Imaginary Ends, the Mystery Expansion Overlush and the Legends of Enderas. We got to test out the new packs with many of the same people who enjoy playing at least one round of Doomlings at the start of most game nights. We rotated in cards from each new pack piecemeal so that how much they changed or influenced the core gameplay could be evaluated.

In general, none of the expansion packs radically alter how Doomlings is played. The world will still end once enough catastrophe cards randomly come out of the Ages deck, and the winner is still the player with the most points and the most evolved Doomlings when that happens. However, several of the packs do things like alter how points can be collected or how players build up their Doomlings. This is especially true of the Legend of Enderas pack, which pushes the boundaries more than the others with powerful traits that can lead to advanced strategies for experienced players.

In addition to new cards for the game, you can also get random holofoil cards to add to your collection. Those cards look really amazing but don’t function differently from whatever normal cards they replace. They are more about collectibility. I am not sure if there is a secondary market for Doomlings cards, but if there is, or should one ever form, then those holofoils should be among the most valuable in Doomlings collections.

Okay, let’s take a look at each of the three box sets of new cards that we got to review and play with.

The Mystery Expansion Overlush

The Mystery Expansion Overlush box of cards adds a layer of intrigue and unpredictability to Doomlings. With new trait cards, surprise catastrophe events and hidden objectives, this pack deepens the game’s survive the end of the world theme in a playful but compelling way. The new elements encourage more bluffing, more sideways thinking and just enough chaos to keep experienced players on their toes while still welcoming casual participants.

This pack is also designed most like the traditional way that people purchase cards for collectible games like Magic: The Gathering. Inside the box are four, individually wrapped packs of cards. Players get 14 new cards in each pack and are also guaranteed that one of them will be a holofoil design of a random card from Overlush. Beyond just being able to add new elements to Doomlings, it was fun ripping open each pack of cards and finding out what treasures lurked inside.

Imaginary Ends

Whereas the Overlush Mystery Expansion is probably the best place to start to expand your collection, with Imaginary Ends things ramp up in terms of new strategies and traits. It’s probably best for more experienced groups of players who really want to lean into the doomed theme of Doomlings in fun new ways.

To that end, the Imaginary Ends expansion pack adds fanciful new traits and imaginative scenarios that feel like the world is ending in even more colorful ways. It introduces cards with quirky visuals, alternate trait paths and synergies that reward smart combinations. If Doomlings is about racing toward doom, this pack is about making something beautiful out of it.

All of that gives players more reason to experiment with odd mixes and surprise each other. One of the most interesting additions that comes with Imaginary Ends are Magical Merchants. Those cards feature shady salespeople (or creatures) who “give” players interesting trinkets which may or may not be too helpful.

Some of the trinkets that you get (or have forced on you when you pick up a merchant card) are pretty funny and most are useful, though perhaps only in specific circumstances. They may not fully alter the rules but nudge them a bit in new directions.

Legends of Enderas

The cards in the Legends of Enderas box are some of the most powerful in the game, although you probably need to have some experience playing Doomlings to use them properly. As an example, the expansion has quite a few high-power Dominant Traits, legendary card effects and new win conditions that can transform how you approach each game.

While Doomlings usually keeps things light and fast, this pack allows for longer sessions and more strategic depth without losing the original’s friendly vibe. It’s the perfect addition for groups who’ve mastered Doomlings and are looking to elevate their game nights.

Each of these new expansions builds naturally on the fun and flexibility of the Doomlings core game. Whether you want more chaos, more strategy or just more cards to admire, the Mystery Expansion Overlush, Imaginary Ends and Legends of Enderas each bring something unique to the table.

None of the new expansions overcomplicate what makes Doomlings such a charming card game to play. Even with all the packs in play, this is still a perfect title to break the ice at any gathering or game night. But together they do open the door for countless new combinations and play styles. For Doomlings newcomers or longtime fans looking to mix things up, these packs are proof that the end of the world has never been more entertaining.
