EchoFall Games has released a free Steam demo for DEEPWARD, a fast-paced horror FPS roguelite set in an alternate 1920s.
The demo is available on Steam now ahead of Steam Next Fest. DEEPWARD is planned for a full release in Q1 2027.
In DEEPWARD, players choose three heroes from a roster of six and can switch between them instantly during combat. Each hero has their own health, stamina, movement speed, weapon and special ability. Because hero death is permanent for the run, players need to pull wounded teammates out of danger while continuing to push back against crowded enemy encounters.
The mid-combat hero-switching mechanic is one of the main hooks of the demo, giving players different tools to manage fights as they move, shoot, kick and slash through enemies. According to EchoFall Games, the system has already received positive feedback from players.
The Steam page describes DEEPWARD as a horror shooter where sanity affects what players see as they head underground through gothic interiors, caves, prisons and ritual chambers. The story unfolds through journals and conversations with the player’s crew.
