Grand Theft Auto VI’s 212 GB Preload Begins November 10

One of the most anticipated video game releases in years is almost here. Rockstar Games has announced that Grand Theft Auto VI will begin digital preloading on Nov. 10, giving players time to prepare their consoles before the massive open-world adventure officially launches Nov. 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

And players may want to start clearing some storage space now, because Grand Theft Auto VI is going to be a very large download. According to Rockstar, the preload will require up to 212 GB of available storage, depending on the console. That’s a considerable amount of space, especially for players who already have several large games installed.

On PlayStation 5, digital preloading begins at midnight local time on Tuesday, Nov. 10. Xbox Series X|S owners can begin preloading at 12 a.m. GMT that same day. Players who have preordered the digital edition can download the game ahead of launch so they’re ready to explore Vice City and the surrounding state of Leonida when it becomes available.

Rockstar also confirmed that code-in-box editions for both consoles should begin appearing at retailers Nov. 12, allowing those buyers to prepare for launch as well.

Players can find instructions for preparing their consoles, enabling automatic downloads and troubleshooting installation issues through the official Grand Theft Auto VI Pre-Load FAQ on Rockstar’s support website.

Grand Theft Auto VI takes players back to Vice City and the fictional state of Leonida, following protagonists Jason and Lucia as they become entangled in a criminal conspiracy stretching across the region. The highly anticipated sequel promises a sprawling world filled with memorable characters, criminal enterprises and the series’ trademark blend of action, exploration and satire.

Rockstar has also released extensive previews for players eager to learn more before launch. The official Grand Theft Auto VI website includes trailers, screenshots and additional information about the game. Fans can watch Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, which provides a closer look at the new world through gameplay footage captured on PlayStation 5.

Music has always been an important part of the Grand Theft Auto experience, and Rockstar is already giving fans a preview of what they’ll hear while exploring Leonida. The Grand Theft Auto VI music section features previews of in-game radio stations and selections from Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album.

Players can also explore the colorful people and locations of Vice City and its surrounding region through Rockstar’s Only in Leonida feature, while those interested in additional content can find details about the Grand Theft Auto VI Ultimate Edition.

Rockstar has a few more surprises planned for launch day. Beginning Nov. 19, the official website will offer a free downloadable poster featuring the game’s cover art and a map of Leonida. A physical double-sided version is also planned for the Rockstar Store shortly after launch, priced at 99 cents or included free with another store purchase.

With the release now just weeks away, players planning to jump into Grand Theft Auto VI on launch day should make sure their consoles have enough available storage and that automatic downloads are properly configured.

After all, nobody wants to spend launch day deleting old games instead of exploring Vice City.
