DragonCon Announces 2015 Guests of Honor

dragonconfix01Dragon Con, Atlanta’s internationally known pop culture, fantasy and sci-fi convention, has selected British science fiction author Peter F. Hamilton and Argentina-born fantasy artist Ciruelo as its Literary and Artist Guests of Honor.

Both Guests of Honor are widely renowned in their respective fields and recognized as endlessly creative individuals.  They will be recognized at the Guests of Honor Awards Banquet on Saturday, Sept. 5.

“We are delighted to have Peter and Ciruelo join us for Dragon Con 2015,” convention co-chair Rachel Reeves said. “For nearly 30 years, we have honored the artists and authors and other creators who bring their incredible imaginations to the worlds of science fiction and fantasy art and literature.”

Hamilton is best known for writing “space operas” – romantic and often melodramatic adventures set mainly or entirely in space.  Hamilton’s Fallen Dragon was nominated for both an Arthur C. Clarke Award and John W. Campbell Memorial Award.   His short story, “The Suspect Genome” was recognized with a British Science Fiction Award.   Born in Rutland, UK, Hamilton still lives there today with his family.

Best known for his paintings of dragons, Ciruelo Cabral (b. Gustavo Cabral) has created book covers for George Lucas, album covers for Steve Vai and other rock acts, and magazine covers for Heavy Metal, Playboy and others.  His artwork can also be found on Magic: The Gathering cards.  While much of his artwork has been published in nine books including The Book of the Dragon, Ciruelo also pioneered a technique of painting on rocks that have the appearance of sculpture.  He currently lives with his family near Barcelona, Spain.
