Hey all I’m back with another Light Novel for this week’s Translation Necessary Thursday. It’s Waltraute-san no Konkatsu Jijou by Kazuma Kamachi!

Plot: The plot is pretty laid back, it’s about a young boy named Jack who is infatuated with Waltraute, one of the nine Valkryie of Norse Mythology and ends up getting engaged to her. It’s a romantic comedy that doesn’t deal with the annoying love triangle or does he/she love me tropes, which is a rarity. The fact that it draws heavily from Norse Mythology is just icing on the cake.

Characters: Our leads are Jack and Waltraute and of every romantic comedy I’ve experienced they are definitely in the top 10 couples, if only because they don’t deal with what so many other stories deal with. The rest of the cast is very much drawn from Norse Mythology and if you know those myths they are pretty accurate as far as this interpretation is, although it’s not perfectly mirrored and there are some differences.

Overall: One of my favorite Romantic Comedy novels of all time, because it doesn’t use the more cliched tropes.

For those who like: Romance, Comedy, Norse Mythology, Great Plot, Fantastic Cast of Characters.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.
