Hey all, I’m back with the first entry in a rather bizarre light novel series for this week’s Translation Necessary Thursday. It’s “The Vexations of a Shut-In Vampire Princess Volume 01” by Kotei Kobayashi.

Plot: The plot of this first volume is pretty good. It is all about a fantasy world where death isn’t an issue most of the time and even grievous injuries can be healed so long as someone is within the thousands of kilometer range of certain items. In this fantasy world lives a shut-in vampire named Komari who upon awakening one day finds out she’s become a new general in the never-ending wars between realms and has been named a princess by the Demon Lord. Unfortunately for Komari, our vampire lead, she is stuck with the misfit army which is full of weirdos.

Characters: All the characters are great. Even if the main character Komari is very much not comfortable in her situation as a general, she manages to get by with the help of my personal favorite character Vill, or Villhaze, Komari’s new maid. The fact that Vill is head over heels for Komari is just the icing on the cake for me.

Overall: This is a very fun series, though it does seem to rely heavily on the characters vastly misunderstanding things trope which generally is a hit or miss for me. It wasn’t for me this time, but I’ll leave the reason why for you to read and find out.
