Hey all, I’m back with the third entry in a series I covered a while back for this week’s Retro Game Friday. It’s Front Mission 3.

Plot: The plot and characters of this third entry are still dealing with a futuristic world that uses giant mechs, called Wanzers, in combat instead of soldiers for the most part. It is pretty good and while I won’t spoil it, I enjoyed Front Mission 3 more than the previous ones in this series.

Gameplay: The gameplay is still tactical role-playing, but the RPG elements are emphasized more than in the prior two entries. A new feature and one I enjoyed was the fact that you can attack pilots now and direct your own pilots to try and hijack an enemy Wanzer. Still, this was a solid entry in a series known for its tactical gameplay, even if it wasn’t as hard as prior entries in the series.

Art: The art is sadly one of the worse parts of it, with the switch between action in combat being sort of wonky. It’s not terrible though and you can ignore it for the most part, but it does deserve mentioning.

Overall: Front Mission 3 was a solid third entry in this popular mech-powered tactical RPG series and well worth playing.
