Hey all, I’m back with a rather weird entry in the Pokemon series that is often forgotten for this week’s Retro Game Friday. It’s the Pokemon Trading Card Game for the GameBoy Color.

Plot: The plot is similar to the more mainline Pokemon games, though instead of capturing various Pokemon it’s all about collecting the various cards to play the trading card game version of Pokemon. Is that too confusing for you? In other words, you are playing a video game adaptation of the actual trading card game with a sort of storyline to go along with it.

Gameplay: It’s a video game recreation of a trading card game. It’s a bit convoluted but once you get over the various mental gymnastics necessary to play, it was fairly well done. It didn’t and still doesn’t hold up to the actual mainline games however at all.

Art: The art is okay. It was a GameBoy Color game, so it has aged fairly well.

Music: It fit this Pokemon game pretty well.

Overall: One of the weirder entries in the Pokemon game series.

For those who like: Pokemon and Trading Card Games.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.
