Hey all, I’m back with another film from the 90’s for this week’s Movie Monday. It’s FernGully: The Last Rainforest.

Plot: The plot is pretty blatantly advocating environmental responsibility, but it doesn’t get too preachy. In fact, that was one of the goals according to the producer Wayne Young. So, the basic plot deals with the animal residents of a forest called FernGully that is visited by a logging company, and things go to hell in a handbasket because the plot needed it.

Casting: Samantha Mathis and Jonathan Ward are the two main characters, Crysta and Zak respectively, and they do a decent job. Robin Williams portrays one of the main characters named Batty, and Tim Curry is Hexxus, the character who is the main antagonist of the film. Honestly, it’s a star-studded cast that does a pretty good job of carrying a pretty poor script and plot.

Art: The art is pretty good, but it’s not up to Disney movies in terms of animation.

Music: The music fit the movie but is not that memorable.

Overall: An okay movie, but there are better animated films out there.

For those who like: Animated movies, Environmental Themes, and a Great Cast.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.
