Hey all, I’m back with another series for this week’s Bookish Wednesday. It’s the Backyard Dungeon series by Logan Jacobs.

Plot: This series, which is in the subgenre of portal fantasy, centers around Eddie, the main character, who inherits his estranged grandfather’s trailer and the land it sits on. On moving in he starts to inspect the property when he finds a weird hatch to something underground. Obviously wanting to know what the heck is up with that he goes to investigate. Turns out there’s a huge underground world down through that hatch with monsters and other beings like night elves, and there’s also loot. So, Eddie starts to explore the underground world.

Honestly this isn’t some amazing series, it’s pretty standard, a not that great, but not terrible sort of thing. I listen to it when I really need to kill time doing something tedious in a game I’m reviewing like when I need to grind out levels or farm resources for upgrades, and I’ve got nothing better to listen to at that moment.

Characters: Eddie is okay for a main character. He’s pretty average and not that spectacular. Another character, Ibseth, is a night elf and she’s okay, however, she’s not outstanding either. All the characters in this series are like that to be honest.

Overall: If you want a fairly standard reverse portal fantasy then look no further. It’s pretty bog standard. Not outstanding, but not immediately off putting either.

For those who like: Fantasy, Action, Adventure, Portal Fantasy, and a Decent Plot.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.
