Hey all, I’m back with a series from this past winter for this week’s Anime Sunday. It’s my “Shikkakumon” Episode 01 Impressions!

Plot: The plot is not the greatest. It mainly deals with the fact that the main character Matthias is the reincarnation of a powerful magic user. He was reincarnated in order to obtain the power of a crest he was denied in that life, the Fourth Crest. However, it’s now regarded as the Weakest Crest after 5,000 years which happens to be when Matthias was born. The pacing of this first episode is pretty terrible to be honest – I think it covers the entirety of the first Light Novel, which is not great as that means tons of backstory was passed over in order to make this first episode “exciting”.

Characters: In this first episode, we get to meet Matthias who is the main character. He’s the typical overpowered sort of character that is kind of boring to watch. The other two members of the main cast, Lurie and Alma, are also incredibly dull.

Artwork: The art isn’t particularly amazing, but it’s not bad either. It’s just sort of average and not particularly noteworthy.

Music: The music isn’t much better, and definitely doesn’t make up for the lackluster plot or cast.

Overall: Frankly, this show is pretty awful. It’s not engaging or particularly interesting, so it’s definitely not worth the time to watch it.

For those who like: Fantasy, Overpowered Characters.

Not for those who don’t like: Either of the above.
