This week for Bookish Wednesday I’m covering the first book in a series I stumbled across recently at my library. It’s Dragonvein Book 01 by Brian D. Anderson!

Plot Synopsis: Carentan, France 1944 – Ethan Martin, a soldier in the 101st Airborne, is fighting for his life. But soon he will learn what peril truly is when he is ripped from his world and transported to a land of magic, swords, and dragons. And though the Nazis are now far, far away, danger is closer than ever. The Eternal Emperor, Shinzan has destroyed the mages and only a few dragons remain in exile.

Plot: The plot is pretty intense, and not at all bad considering how short the novel is. That all being said, some of the tropes that normally come across in books like this get very much subverted. It’s pretty good for such a short book.

Characters: Ethan is a great male lead, but he’s also incredibly naive and headstrong. Jonas on the other hand is a secretive sort of fellow that makes it hard to trust him. Kat is the female lead, and I enjoy her character quite a bit, although maybe I just enjoy outspoken female thieves who can handle themselves well regardless of their age. The rest of the cast is good, but I have to say Kat is my favorite character of the bunch. Ethan can be too much of a goody-two shoes sometimes and it’s a bit grating.

Overall: If you enjoy Fantasy, especially Transported to another World stories, you’ll love Dragonvein Book 01.

For those who like: Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Transported to another World stories, Drama, Action, Adventure, Great Plot, Excellent Female Leads.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.
