Welcome Time Wasters!

Alright, I actually found a Christmas browser game this week that isn’t trash. I was looking for one last week, but got sidetracked by Cloudphobia.  It works out better this way anyways. What with it being Christmas Eve and all that.

The game I spent my time with this week is Rurus Christmas Run. It’s an endless runner game that hits the Christmas theme this week perfectly. It puts players in control of a reindeer and it runs along a snowy field collecting ornaments stars. The more ornaments that players collect, the higher the score they get.

Jump the box!

The stars that player collect in Rurus Christmas Run actually do more than just increase the high score. When a star is picked up, the reindeer turns golden and becomes invincible. This means it can smash through the candy cane colored boxes that typically hurt the players when they run into them.

When not powered up by a star, those candy cane boxes will deal one damage to the reindeer. The reindeer has a total of three health, which means its three hits before game over. There’s no way to heal, so avoid the boxes at all costs.

Our reindeer friend also has another ability that helps them avoid the obstacles in front of it. This ability is a double jump. It’s not super useful, but it can come in handy every once in a while. The candy cane boxes only ever appear on the ground, so they aren’t actually all that dangerous.

The graphics in Rurus Christmas Run are quite good. It has some detailed sprites and a nice, polished look. The backgrounds are simple, but look good. The same goes for items and other parts of the visuals.

Gotta collect them stars!

The audio in Rurus Christmas Run is a bit off. The music has a whimsical Christmas feel, but the sound effects are a bit lacking. There aren’t any sound effects for picking up ornaments, but there is for jumping. Also, the loud crunch that comes from running into the candy cane boxes is louder than the rest of the game and a poor surprise for anyone wearing headphones.

Overall, Rurus Christmas Run isn’t bad. It’s a simple endless runner and it is alright for killing some time. However, it won’t keep players entertained for long. It’s just a little too simple for its own good.

Overall, Rurus Christmas Run earns 2.5 GiN Gems out of 5!

Merry Christmas everyone and be safe during the holidays!
