‘Us’ Review: Jordan Peele’s latest social horror flips ‘Get Out’ on its head

Us is the new film by Jordan Peele, of Get Out fame. Drew and Chella discuss the latest in Peele’s brand of social horrors, which looks at the monster within.

SOME BRIEF NOTES ON THE DUPLICATION AND REPLACEMENT OF HUMANS

  1. IT DEFINITELY DOES NOT HAPPEN
  2.  COMMON PITFALLS WHEN REPLACING HUMANS WITH IDENTICAL DUPLICATES INCLUDE: – ALLOWING THE ORIGINAL AND DUPLICATE TO MEET (UNLIKE ROBOTS, HUMANS BECOME IMMEDIATELY SUSPICIOUS WHEN ENCOUNTERING EXACT REPLICAS OF THEMSELVES) – MAKING THE DUPLICATE TOO EASY TO DISMEMBER AND BEAT UP (THE “WORLD’S END” BLUNDER) – INSTALLING THE WRONG LANGUAGE FILES (REMEMBER TO CLICK “APPLY” AFTER CHANGING DEFAULT) – UNCONVINCING RUBBER SKIN – AMOUNT OF TIME SPENT TALKING ABOUT SICK SKATEBOARD TRICKS (CURRENTLY DEFAULTS TO 20% OF TOTAL DAILY CONVERSATION DUE TO WILD OVER-ESTIMATION BY PROGRAMMER. THEY TELL ME THIS WILL BE FIXED IN THE NEXT FIRMWARE) – DUPLICATES WEIGH OVER ONE TON AND CONSTANTLY FALL THROUGH FLOORING DESIGNED FOR HUMANS (NOTHING WE CAN DO ABOUT THIS)
  3. IT DEFINITELY DOES NOT HAPPEN DO NOT ALLOW THIS MEMO TO BE READ BY UNREPLACED HUMANS. IF ACCIDENTALLY RELEASED LIKE LAST TIME, DIRECT THEIR ATTENTION MAINLY TO POINTS 1 AND 3. DISMISS POINT 2 AS A TYPO OR MISPRINT.

ALSO ATTACHED PLEASE FIND A HUMAN-PRODUCED PODCAST REGARDING HUMAN-PRODUCED MOVIE “US”, CURRENTLY IN CINEMAS. IT IS NOT ABOUT ROBOTS BUT MAY STILL BE A USEFUL REFERENCE. REGARDS A. HUMAN P.S. THIS FRIDAY’S WORK OUTING HAS BEEN CANCELLED AFTER IT WAS BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION THAT ROBOTS CANNOT GET DRUNK AND THAT POURING PINTS OF LIQUID INTO OUR INTERNAL WORKINGS WOULD BE CATASTROPHIC

Chella hails from the UK and joined Gameindustry.com around the year 2000. It was so many moons ago, she can't quite remember. Back then, the only women you saw in the games industry were in bikinis and vertiginous heels at trade shows - oh how times have changed, kind of. Chella started as a humble reviewer, but soon became our European Correspondent and keeps us on top of industry happenings across the Pond. She tends to like the weird Japanese games we've never heard of, so that's good for making us look all-encompassing and stuff. Chella does like games, so don't be fooled by the copious amount of columns devoted to bemoaning the lack of variety in the industry. When she's not surfing (the sea, not the internet) or camping up mountains, Chella likes a good action RPG (especially if it's sci-fi), anything with a good narrative and like we said, the weirder the better. She's also a regular in the GiN Lounge, but that's just because we like her accent.
