Bandai Namco Entertainment has released a new story trailer for Echoes of Aincrad, giving fans another look at the upcoming action RPG set in the world of Sword Art Online while also highlighting some of the familiar faces and life-or-death stakes waiting inside Aincrad.
The new trailer leans into the central premise of the adventure, showing players and known characters trying to come to terms with the reality that they are trapped inside the floating castle of Aincrad, where dying in the virtual world means dying in real life. Bandai Namco says players will take on the role of the hero who helps unite the people around them, fighting to survive, clear the game and break free of the deadly prison.
Echoes of Aincrad will let players create their own hero, choose their gear and battle in real-time combat while building synergy with a selected partner. Familiar characters from the franchise, including Asuna, Agil and Lisbeth, will be available to assist through the game’s Switch System, which allows players to alternate between attacking enemies directly and relying on partner support while recovering during battle. Players will also explore a range of environments across Aincrad, from safer open areas to dangerous dungeons filled with enemies, quests and treasures. A demo is also currently available on Steam.
Echoes of Aincrad is scheduled to launch on July 9, 2026 on Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, with preorders are available now. There are several versions available including standard, Deluxe and Ultimate editions, along with a preorder bonus weapon pack inspired by Kirito’s signature Elucidator weapon line.
