Bigpoint Expands Into The Asian Market

Bigpoint is positioning itself in the Asian market: the international developer and publisher of browser and online games is expanding into South Korea for the first time. The multi-award-winning game Drakensang Online is slated to entertain the first Korean players starting August 2013.

Bigpoint is Western Europe’s first gaming company to enter into a publishing cooperation with the NHN Corporation, South Korea’s foremost Internet company. The provider of the search engine Naver and the country’s most popular online game portal Hangame guarantees Bigpoint access to the market while simultaneously helping NHN to bolster its own portfolio in the global online game business.

Khaled Helioui, Managing Director of Bigpoint, says: "Today marks the start of Bigpoint in one of the largest markets in the online gaming industry. South Korea has one of the most important, demanding and knowledgeable base of core gamers. It is a testament of the quality and innovation of Bigpoint’s games that we are the first western gaming company in Europe to partner with the leading name in the country, NHN, to provide Drakensang to South Korean gamers."

With more than 17 million registered users in over 200 countries, Drakensang Online has enjoyed a great deal of international success and roughly 700,000 new users continue to join the game every month.

Han Wook Cho, Director of NHN Game Business Division, states: "NHN expects to make a new leap forward in local web game market by releasing Drakensang, which has been highly esteemed by gamers all around the world. Drakensang is only the beginning. We are seeking ways to boost network between Korea and Europe in game contents area by cementing relations with Bigpoint."
