This week for Sensate Saturday I’ve got another Quick Review. It’s Kyou no Kira-kun by Mikimoto Rin!

Plot Synopsis: Ninon Okamura is an introverted high schoolgirl who cannot talk with anyone other than her parents and Kansai dialect-speaking pet parrot, Sensei. However, her life changes when her mother requests her to befriend her next-door neighbor and classmate, Yuiji Kira, who only has one year left to live.

Plot: The plot of this first chapter was very intriguing and had me hooked almost from the beginning. However it really hooked me when the parrot started acting like a human. I’ve always had a fondness for birds, and a Kansai slang speaking parrot was pretty funny. That being out of the way, the rest of this first chapter was actually rather serious so the parts with the bird were a welcome reprieve from the depressing mood. I’ll be reading the rest of the series soon, hopefully sometime this upcoming spring.

Characters: Ninon is the standard shy, rarely speaking girl stereotype almost perfectly. Except for her parrot who she goes everywhere with, including school. Kira on the other hand seems to be the arrogant pretty boy stereotype on the surface, so seeing him act otherwise was refreshing. Sensei, the parrot, was my favorite character.

Art: The art was great, and if I didn’t know that this wasn’t a Shueisha published work, I would’ve guessed it was.

Overall: This is looking to be a definite must read for any who enjoy romance.

For those who like: Romance, Drama, School Life, Slice of Life, Parrots, Excellent Plot, Fantastic Cast of Characters, Awesome Artwork.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.
