Hey all, I’m back with a game from back in the 2010’s for this week’s Retro Game Friday. It’s Hydro Thunder Hurricane.
Gameplay: The gameplay isn’t much different at first glance from the first game, Hydro Thunder, though there are additional modes this time around. There’s the Rubber Ducky mode which was a weird form of a protect the VIP type of mission which was odd for a racing title. Honestly, I tried the Rubber Ducky thing, and it was very weird. That said, the aquatic-based racing was still pretty solid, and I enjoyed it for the relatively brief time I played it on a roommate’s Xbox.
Art: The art in this sequel is much better aged, though it still has noticeably aged comparatively given it was released at the end of the 360 era. The water physics were really good though, and the backgrounds are still passable even today.
Music: The music wasn’t something I paid much attention to, given I was playing with a roommate or had them backseat driving with me.
Overall: A solid sequel, and one of the best aquatic-based racers.
