Hey all, I’m back with an oldie but a goodie from 2005 for this week’s Retro Game Friday. It’s Chibi Robo.
Plot: The plot of this game is pretty wild and revolves around the titular character, a 10-centimeter-tall robot, that does tasks around the house for the Sanderson family. The story does get more than a bit out there, but it was just part of the fun.
Gameplay: Chibi Robo revolves around the character having both a limited battery life and a limited time to do various tasks in any given time period.
It’s not quite like Pikmin in that you are very limited in what you can do at any given time and have a hard time limit (which was something I much preferred to be honest.) And of course, you can eventually gain unlimited battery life, which was pretty great, although it required you to unlock almost everything and clear the story.
Art: The graphics have aged fairly well given the age of this title, but they still aren’t super great given it was from the GameCube era.
Music: The music was pretty good, and it was definitely memorable.
Overall: One of the better games in the final years of the GameCube.
For those who like: Platformers, robots, an over-the-top story, good art, and fun gameplay.
Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.
