Hey all, I’m back with a crime film from 2019 for this week’s Movie Monday. It’s The Good Liar.

Plot: The plot of this film is based on a novel from 2015. Honestly, the plot is pretty decent. It involves a conman named Roy, well at least that’s what he goes by, trying to trick an elderly widow in order to take her money. Lots and lots of plot twists and other things like that happen in the film, but I won’t spoil the surprises in case you have not seen it yet. But it’s all pretty good.

Casting: The two leads are Ian McKellen and Helen Mirren, and they steal the spotlight in my eyes. The other actors are good, but the two leads really outshine everyone else in the cast.

Cinematography: The special effects aren’t particularly necessary in this film given it mostly revolves around the two leads and Roy’s cons.

Music: The music is extremely forgettable, and I literally just saw it about a week ago as of this writing. But the music isn’t really the draw of the movie, the twist and turns of the plot are.

Overall: A pretty good film although I’m torn on the actual story. It’s definitely got twists and turns, and it pulls them off pretty well, but it just isn’t my kind of movie.

For those who like: Crime, Thrillers, Drama, Action, and an Excellent Cast.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.
