Michael Blaker’s Movie Monday Featuring Smokey and the Bandit

Hey all, I’m back with another classic for this week’s Movie Monday. It’s Smokey and the Bandit.

Plot: This is a classic action-comedy film released in 1977 revolving around two smugglers nicknamed the Bandit and Snowman who are on the run from Sheriff Justice (Buford T. Justice),and not for the smuggling, as you might think, but because they picked up an unwanted hitchhiker in the form of Carrie, a literal runaway bride. Honestly, the entire plot is hilarious and a bit contrived by today’s standards, but it was so much fun so I can give it a pass.

Casting: The cast has some real star power like the late great Burt Reynolds as the Bandit, and the equally late but great Jackie Gleason who played Sherrif Justice. Sally Field portrays Carrie, and the entire cast was amazing.

Cinematography: By today’s standards it’s not spectacular, but it was great back then. Not Star Wars levels of great, but then not too much met those levels at that time.

Music: The music is perfect and fits the film excellently. Honestly, I can’t complain about it.

Overall: This is considered a classic for a reason, and it’s well worth watching.

For those who like: Action, Comedy, Drama, Excellent Cast, and a Fun Plot.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above, but you really ought to give it a try.
