Hey all, I’m back with a classic film from 1984 for this week’s Movie Monday that recently got entered into the Library of Congress. It’s the original Beverly Hills Cop movie.
Plot: The plot of the original Beverly Hills Cop film is pretty great, and revolves around Axel Foley, a fast-talking plain clothes cop who doesn’t always play by the rules. It’s pretty stereotypical but given that this was one of the movies that made those stereotypes, I can forgive that. It’s pretty fun and has a good amount of action as well.
Casting: Eddie Murphy plays Axel, with Judge Reinhold and the recently late John Ashton playing Rosewood and Taggart. And they all do an awesome job of it. They definitely make the film the success it was. This was easily one of Eddie Murphy’s best films. You will forget all about Pluto Nash when you watch this one.
Cinematography: The effects aren’t bad, but they aren’t super amazing either.
Music: The classic theme, which is iconic, is also amazing. Seeing my parents’ heads whip around and instantly recognize the film when it first played was rather funny.
Overall: An amazing film, and it’s the top grossing R-Rated film of all time adjusted for inflation. It was also recently entered into the Library of Congress.
For those who like: Cop films, Comedy, Action, Drama, Good Plot, Great Cast, and an Amazing Soundtrack.
Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above, but give it a shot since it’s still an amazing film.
