Michael Blaker’s Movie Monday Featuring All Dogs Go to Heaven

Hey all, I’m back with another film from the late 80’s for this week’s Movie Monday. It’s All Dogs Go to Heaven.

Plot: The plot is pretty good, but it’s a children’s animated film so expecting a serious plot is going to lead to disappointment. I don’t really need to say more given that regarding the plot, it’s good for what it is, and really great when compared to other animated films for children.

Cast: The cast is pretty great, although I learned about a sad story regarding the child voice actor named Judith Barsi that played the female lead Anne-Marie as I was researching information for this blog. She was apparently killed, and this was unfortunately her final film at the age of 10. Honestly, I didn’t expect to find out about that, and was really shocked and sad because I didn’t know about any of that before now. She and the rest of the cast did a great job with this film, although it’s sad to think that this was her last recorded work.

Art: The art is solid, this being a movie from before the time that computers started taking the place of hand-drawn animation, so it’s aged pretty well.

Music: It fit the movie very well, and the song that played during the final credits was dedicated to Judith, something that I didn’t know about until reading up on the cast for this post. That makes me appreciate the soundtrack even more.

Overall: A pretty great movie with a very interesting premise.

For those who like: Comedy, Action, and Animated Films.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.
