Hey all, I’m back with the first entry in a LitRPG series for this week’s Bookish Wednesday. It’s “Suburban Warlock: A Slice of Life Fantasy Book One” by Noah Layton.

Plot: This first entry is a fairly decent introduction to the plot of “Suburban Warlock.” In the first book of the series dungeons are scattered across the world, and in the United States there was a particularly notorious dungeon. The only surviving member of the party that “cleared” the legendary dungeon decides to take the dungeon’s treasure and retire to a quiet life in suburbia. This is a generally relaxed series, though it does have its action filled moments.

Characters: The main character named Trent is a guy that’s an overpowered warlock who just can’t relax in my opinion, but reading about a guy who retires and just kicks back in the nice house he bought with the millions in treasure he gained from clearing a legendary dungeon isn’t as interesting if he also doesn’t stick his nose into other people’s business constantly. At least he’s aware enough to acknowledge the fact he’s a massive hypocrite, but honestly, I don’t enjoy him as a main character. The rest of the characters are okay, but they don’t really make up for Trent’s hypocritical behavior.

Overall: A good LitRPG but not particularly outstanding.

For those who like: Fantasy, LitRPGs, Overpowered Main Characters, and Busybody Main Characters.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.
