Hey all, I’m back with another Anime Sunday with a series from 2024’s Winter season. It’s my impressions of “My Instant Death Ability Is Overpowered” Episode 01.

Plot: This is a rather odd Isekai series that’s adapted from a light novel I’ve covered in the past. Why it’s odd is in that you know without a doubt that the good guys will win. It’s just a matter of how they get to that win that’s in question. I say that because in this Isekai series the main character is literally unbeatable, and anyone or anything he wishes to kill dies.

So, this series lacks a ton of tension at least in the largest sense that you know the main characters are always going to be fine, it’s just going to be how they get there that is mainly the draw. And this first episode does do a decent job of that, though I’ll admit I did prefer the original light novels a bit more.

Characters:  Yogiri Takatou is the main male lead, and he’s extremely unemotional. The why becomes apparent once you really think about it, but his lazy attitude is a bit odd at first. Tomochika is the female lead, and she plays the straight man or the reactionary to Yogiri’s completely lax attitude towards everything.  She’s quite fun as a main character. The rest of the characters are not really present in this first episode quite so much, as it really focuses on Yogiri and Tomochika.

Art: The artwork is pretty decent. While I haven’t really watched much of Studio Okuruto Noboru’s works, their works to date are pretty great. Certainly, they are leagues better than Studio Deen, but they don’t reach Ufotable’s quality either.

Music: The music is pretty forgettable sadly.

Overall: A very decent first episode of a series I can’t believe I didn’t cover last year!

For those who like: Isekai, Fantasy, Action, Comedy, Fun Plots, and Good Characters.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.
