Hey all, I’m back for this week’s Anime Sunday with a look at one of the many Isekai series of the prior season. It’s my “Iseleve” Episode 01 Impressions.

Plot: The plot of “Iseleve,” also known with its longer title as “I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World and Became Unrivaled in the Real World, Too,” is pretty standard at first glance. The main character Yuuya is bullied at school and by his family members except for his grandfather. His grandfather dies, and Yuuya inherits his house and moves into it. But what sets this series apart is that Yuuya finds a strange door in the house that lets him travel at will between Earth and the new world he finds himself in. Unlike “Saving 80k Gold,” “Iseleve” does feature an unrepentantly overpowered main character in Yuuya because he is granted powerful skills and weapons in this other world. That may be off putting to some and honestly I wasn’t intending to watch past the first episode, but well Yuuya happens to be rather endearing as a main character given his past at the start of the episode.

Character: As I said above, Yuuya is rather endearing and also completely overpowered. This first episode has a rather limited cast of characters, mostly having Yuuya be by himself. That said, we do get to meet his younger siblings who are twins named Youta and Sora and are two of those characters that you love to hate.

Art: The art is pretty great, although it’s not at my gold standard of ufotable quality. It is pretty good nonetheless.

Music: I enjoyed the musical score of this first episode. It really helped showcase the changes Yuuya goes through in this first episode.

Overall: A somewhat unique take on the Isekai genre, “Iseleve” is not going to be a standout but is a fun show to watch.

For those who like: Action, Adventure, Fantasy, Isekai Series, and an Interesting Main Character.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.
