This week for Bookish Wednesday I’m back with a wonderful series I found a while back. It’s NPCs, Book 01 of the Spells Swords and Stealth Series, by Drew Hayes!

Plot Synopsis: What happens when the haggling is done and the shops are closed? When the quest has been given, the steeds saddled, and the adventurers are off to their next encounter? They keep the world running, the food cooked, and the horses shoed, yet what adventurer has ever spared a thought or concern for the Non-Player Characters?

In the town of Maplebark, four such NPCs settle in for a night of actively ignoring the adventurers drinking in the tavern when things go quickly and fatally awry.

Plot: The plot is great, and I was constantly laughing. It’s a great read/listen and I absolutely won’t spoil it, but it’s purely epic.

Characters: Tim and Reynolds are great characters, but I have to say that I enjoyed Thistle and Grumph (I think that’s spelled correctly) the most. That said Gabrielle and Eric were pretty epic too. The rest of the cast was funny, but the six I just mentioned were the absolute best.

Overall: A must read for any gamer, period.

For those who like: What If Scenarios, Fantasy, Magic, Tabletop RPGs, Gaming, Excellent Plots, Fantastic Cast of Characters.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above, but how can you hate that!
