Hey all, I’m back for this week’s Synth Saturday with a Fic that is easily one of the best I’ve read and fuses together two separate settings incredibly well. It’s Chapters 1-5 of “As N Approaches Infinity” by Corisanna.

Plot: This Fic is a fusion between the Bleach and Madoka Magica settings, and it does so very well. It takes place before the final timeline of Madoka Magica’s anime, and it details a time when the time traveling Homura Akemi is so broken and despondent at her failure to save her friends yet again in a timeline that she just gets on a train and ends up in Karakura where she meets the Kurosaki twins.

For those unfamiliar with Madoka Magica it’s a pretty dark and grim series, and what occurs in this Fic is at times just as dark. Homura is a very broken girl, who is fighting impossible odds against insurmountable foes, but her meeting the Kurosakis is a factor that no one could account for. Thankfully Homura’s power allows her to continually try for that perfect ending through the different timelines. The Fic actually begins at some point in the future, X+N+54 in chapter 1. Those numbers are important. This set of chapters details what occurs before that point in time though after Chapter 1.

Characters: We get to really understand Homura and get to see what’s different in this fusion setting when it comes to Yuzu Kurosaki and her twin sister Karin Kurosaki. Their father Isshin Kurosaki is also introduced in this set of chapters.

Overall: A very great Fic that really showcases the depth of characters between the two settings. Sadly, this Fic hasn’t been updated in a few years so it’s not active at the moment, but I hope that the writer gets back to it eventually as it’s easily one of the top pieces of writing I’ve read.
