Hey all, I’m back with another Anime Sunday with a series from last year’s spring season. It’s my “Maebashi Witches” Episode 01 Impressions.
Plot: This is a fairly standard magical girl series tied with a bit of the idol genre, at least from this first episode that I watched. But I’ve heard rumblings that this could be like Madoka Magica, so take this review with a hefty dose of salt with that significant caveat in mind. I did not watch further episodes yet beyond the first one, so I can’t verify if it does lean towards that particular genre. Honestly, this first episode was okay, but the singing detracted from the plot in my opinion.
Characters: The main character is Yuina, and this first episode mostly revolves around her and her introduction to magic rather than getting to know the other characters.
Art: The art is pretty solid, but that’s not a surprise given it’s done by Sunrise of Gundam fame.
Music: The music fit the episode, although like I said before the singing detracts from the plot in my mind.
Overall: An okay series but not really that interesting enough to pull me into watching further episodes. Whether that holds true for you is your choice at the end of the day.
