psyren

This week for Manga Monday I’m covering a favorite series of mine. It’s Psyren by Toshiaki Iwashiro!

Plot Synopsis: After Ageha Yoshina beats up a bully for 10,000 yen, he heads home anticipating a scolding from his sister for breaking curfew. On his way there, a pay phone nearby starts ringing, an he picks it up only to hear his own echo. Shrugging it off, he places the receiver back only to find a mysterious calling card with the word “Psyren” written on it. Curious about the sudden appearance of the card, he goes to his school’s Occult Club and asks about it. It turns about Psyren was an urban myth, and whoever found out what it really was would get a reward of 500 million yen. The same day, he find his classmate Sakurako Amamiya’s wallet, which some other girls hid, and notices she has the same card. After he returns it to her, she runs off and disappears. The last thing he hears is “Save me”.

Plot: The plot of this series is easily one of the best I’ve read in a long, long time. I won’t spoil anything more by elaborating, but this is a very good series.

Characters: Ageha is a great male lead, as he’s not an idiot and Amamiya is also a great female lead for just being a real bad ass.

Art: The art is good, as is to be expected of a Weekly Shonen Jump series.

Overall: This is well worth your time to read.

For those who like: Sci-Fi, Mystery, Action, Awesome Plot, Fantastic Characters, Great Artwork.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above.
