Not every single game we play has to have a deep plot or hundreds of hours of roleplaying content. Some games are just silly and fun, like the gun-toting gameplay found in Trigger Witch, a cute 2D shooter that combines cute pixel graphics with white hot action.
This week our Modern Gamer does some seriously cute cart racing in Pinchcliffe Grand Prix, which is known as Flaklypa in its native Norway. If you are Norwegian, the game is probably nostalgic, but anyone can enjoy the amusing mini-games and racing action.
Demoniaca Everlasting Night is a game that tries to marry together two different genres, Metroidvanias and beat-em-ups, to varying levels of success. When Demonica is working well, it’s almost epic. But when it falters, it falls down hard.
Tandem: A Tale of Shadows is a puzzle game that allows you to play as two different characters more-or-less simultaneously, but each character has an entirely different perspective, meaning that you as the player get to explore your environment with both of them.
We rarely review games that are in early access, but our reviewer wanted to make an exception for Nova Drift. The Asteroids-like game is extremely polished, action-packed and really beautiful in a retro kind of way. It’s more than worth taking a shot.
If you’re a fan of Metroidvanias, RPG action-adventure titles, or games with heavy Gothic aesthetics, it’s not hard to predict that you will really love Konami’s Castlevania Advance Collection. Get your whips ready to start cracking!
Vesper from Cordens Interactive is one of the most visually stunning platformers to come out in a long time. And the game seems content to let players wander its colorful world without too much direction or help, for better or worse depending on your preferred playstyle.
Drox Operative 2 combines typical 4X space exploration with plenty of old-school arcade action. This makes for a unique experience that is both strategically rewarding and also really exciting. Drox Operative 2 is definitely worth exploring.
They Always Run is a sci-fi western shooter where you play a three-armed bounty hunter trying to take down the worst of the scum and villainy in the universe. The side-scrolling action is fast and incredible, though also not really intended for beginners.
If you love platforming and puzzle games or enjoy those particular aspects of Metroidvania type games then you’ll love Unbound: Worlds Apart, even if the difficulty is pretty challenging. But if you are good at platforming, then this one is worth the jump.
