Sling Away Baby!

Hello Time Wasters!

With the Super Bowl coming up in a few weeks it’s no surprise that we’re seeing a lot of test commercials that may or may not air during the game. Now, I know that this isn’t something that normally relates to the Time Waster but this year is a little different. See Armor Games produced a commercial for Doritos and entered it into the competition to be shown during the Super Bowl. Now being that it’s Armor Games they whipped up a fun little flash game to go with it.

Sling Baby is about one small child and a Grandma that are out to get Doritos from a bully on a swing set. That’s all it is. Of course, the quickest way to do that is to launch the child at the bully from an elastic band. I’m not saying ‘best’…just ‘quickest’. The commercial is humorous and the game is fun as well.

The gameplay of Sling Baby typical of launch games like "Flight" or "Burrito Bison". Pull the kid back, launch him, collect money (or Doritos in this case) and use it to upgrade various stats such as Launch Strength and Baby Bounce. While these games are simple and use the same formula (one that’s been stretched to the point of breaking) I can’t help but finding myself enjoying them. Sling Baby is a little bit shorter than an average launch game but that isn’t always bad. It certainly makes for a quick play at around 10 minutes. It’s perfect for a break between classes or work.

Visually Sling Baby doesn’t offer much. Graphics are about as simple as they get with details lacking from… well… everything. Then again, when the world is flying by at thousands of feet a second I guess details would go unnoticed. Hmm…this brings about the argument of practicality over appearance, but this is a game and they should be a quality product so I’m going to have to dock it some points for that.

While Sling Baby isn’t an amazing game it’s not a bad way to spend a few minutes. It lacks any kind of replayability and certainly doesn’t leave us with any kind of reward or monumental achievement but then again that isn’t always what we want. Sometimes mindless play is the best kind of play. And Doritos.

Sling Baby grabs itself 3 GiN Gems out of 5 as it flies by!
