Michael Blaker’s Movie Monday Featuring The Intern

Hey all, I’m back with a comedy and drama film for this week’s Movie Monday. It’s The Intern.

Plot: This is a standard dramedy, and it’s not bad but not amazing either. The Intern is a 2015 film starring Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway. It follows a 70-year-old widower who takes a senior internship at a fast-growing online fashion company and gradually becomes a steady, wise presence in both the office and the life of its overworked founder. It’s a warm, easygoing movie about friendship, work, reinvention, and the value of experience.

Casting: The cast has some real star power with Robert De Niro as Ben the older intern and Anne Hathaway as the harried but highly successful CEO Jules Ostin.

Cinematography: It’s nothing spectacular, but things like flashy special effects are not really needed for this film so that’s okay.

Music: The music is pretty bland, which doesn’t help the movie’s somewhat lackluster plotline.

Overall: This is worth a watch if only because of who stars in it. Beyond that, it’s a feel-good kind of story, but it lacks very much dramatic punch.

For those who like: Drama and Big Star Power Casts.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above or somewhat mediocre plots.
