Hey all, I’m back with another classic for this week’s Movie Monday. It’s Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.
Plot: This is a classic film from 1964, and it’s focused on the Cold War that was raging at the time. Honestly, if you’ve never seen the film, you absolutely must give it a watch. It’s a classic for a reason. While Blazing Saddles will forever be my favorite film, this is probably one of my more liked comedy films that isn’t directed by Mel Brooks.
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb is a Cold War satire about a rogue U.S. general who orders a nuclear attack on the Soviet Union, triggering a frantic attempt by politicians and military leaders to stop World War III. The film mocks nuclear strategy, political incompetence, and military absurdity as the crisis spirals toward disaster.
Casting: The cast has some of the greats in it, with Peter Sellers portraying three major characters including Dr. Strangelove. Other big names include Sterling Hayden as General Ripper and Slim Pickens as Major Kong. George C. Scott played Gen. Buck Turgidson. And James Earl Jones famously played Lt. Lothar Zogg in one of his early film roles. The whole thing is directed by Stanley Kubrick.
Cinematography: It is still really amazing, especially for being filmed in 1964. I can’t complain about it at all. And some of the most iconic film shots of all time come from this film, so it definitely stands the test of time.
Music: The music is perfect and fits the film excellently.
Overall: This is considered a classic for a reason, and it’s well worth watching.

Not for those who don’t like: Any of the above, but you really ought to give it a try.
