Michael Blaker’s Movie Monday Featuring Boon

Hey all, I’m back with an action-thriller film from 2022 for this week’s Movie Monday. It’s Boon.

Plot: The plot revolves around one Nick Boon, an ex-hitman who moves to a remote location in the Pacific Northwest while seeking to atone for his actions. He meets a widow and her son who are being threatened by a criminal. Honestly, Boon’s plot is terrible. It was so bad, it went around from being fun to watch to being fun to just seeing how much worse this trainwreck of a movie could become.

Casting: The cast doesn’t redeem the poor script either. Neal McDonough is the lead character Boon, and he does a great job but can’t pull the film together. Sadly, the rest of the cast faces similar headwinds trying to make sense of this one. I can only think it was the poor script that is the big problem because these are very good actors trapped in a bad film.

Cinematography: It’s not amazing, but at least it captures the cold winter of the remote and mountainous areas of the Pacific Northwest well.

Music: The music is bland and not even close to being enough to start to save this film.

Overall: Boon might be worth watching but only to see how bad it is. It might be a fun pick for a bad movie night, but there are so many other adventures like this that are good, it’s probably going to be a hard pass for most people.
